The founder of Snipes, Ernesto Segarra, comes from a family with a long history of shoemaking. Whilst still a student, the young Spaniard became interested in ecology, and in the 1990s developed an innovative collection of shoe designs using only natural materials. As a rather unconventional thinker, Segarra purposefully took on industry designers for his trendsetting brand in order to achieve the simple, smart-casual style of Snipes’ models. Snipes sets great store by using only natural resources during the production of its footwear. Snipes women’s shoes are produced in Spain using only the highest quality leathers, such as cowhide and calfskin, which are tanned without chromium. The southern European company’s designs are especially comfortable thanks to their flexible rubber sole. Snipes’ insoles ensure an ergonomic fit and are usually removable. The textile lining is also often made from natural materials such as cotton and lambswool, sometimes combined with other fabrics.
